we watched the stars fall into the atmosphere
laying on the hood of your car
we stayed awake and chased the sun
as the leaves fell onto the pavement
dancing under the streetlights we fell
headfirst into each other's accord
beneath the trees and rooftops and smokestacks
it seemed the night would last forever
wasting time searching for answers we could never find
lying awake beneath the night sky it seemed for now that it could last
then the rain washed away everything
we had seen for miles around
but we never looked back and it seemed
everything would be fine
